Putrid but it works wonders, updated July 2023
Updated July 2023: This is just going to have to become a core part of my routine. I don’t think my skin has been this soft since I was in like high school. I went on a 2 week trip and didn’t bring this. My skin didn’t break out in any wild acne but my forehead bumps came back a few days in. Upon return home and getting back into using this toner, my skin is back to feeling soft and purified.The smell still bothers me, but beauty is pain, as they say. I’m going to to keep it at 4 stars, but I really can’t deny these results. It’s my least favorite part of my routine but produces the best results of any product I use.Original: I have stubborn bumps on my forehead that just refuse to go away. I had read the reviews on this and figured I would give it a try. I began using once a day as suggested and have since moved to twice a day, AM & PM. My skin texture has improved significantly. I am happy to say that the bumps are almost completely gone. My face has also been much smoother and softer to the touch. I have also seen an overall decrease in acne.I apply it after washing by shaking a few times directly into my hands and then applying to my face and allowing it to set for about 3-5 minutes. I was previously doing a 25% BHA peel once ever few days, but it seems that this diluted BHA is more effective at producing the results I want.The first time I opened it, I sniffed it and thought it was spoiled. I checked the batch number and saw that it was only manufactured about 6 months ago. I then came back here to the reviews to see if it was supposed to smell like nail polish remover. Others have noted the same thing. It gets worse when you apply it to your face. I am not exaggerating when I say it is the stench of vomit. It is absolutely revolting, like you stuck your head in a late night bar toilet.If you can tolerate the horrific smell, it is truly a godsend. I would gladly pay more money if this had an added fragrance. I never look forward to toning because it smells so foul.However, I am only knocking off one star because the results are great, it is a vegan/cruelty-free product, and climate pledge friendly. The pros definitely outweigh the cons, just prepare your nose.

FABULOUSNESS
I don’t know what sorcery this is, or what kind of magic is included but I can tell you this has changed my skin. I am late 50s with horrible oily skin. I have never taken care of my skin, but I bought this after reading a review and HOLY COW. This is the REAL DEAL.

Milia diffuser maybe?
You want to know what really grinds my gears? When a customer posts a review that has a picture of the bottle and nothing else. Unless the bottle was not delivered in tact, who does this serve? You’re reading reviews to see how this product will effect your skin, not to see a picture of the bottle. Be more helpful.The “day 3” picture was taken 10/05/23 at night. I’m just shy of 38 if that helps. The other picture was taken 11/08/23 in the morning. The difference in my skin tone is the morning light and my sunscreen. Otherwise no filters. With the exception of a few nights, I’ve been using this product nightly.I notice that my milia under my eye are softer and less clumped together so I think it’s working? However, I have noticed that if I use this BHA product and get my versed moisturizer or smooth landing eye balm in the same area, my skin reacts (swells, turns a weird brown color). So be warned about using it with other skin care products. On its own, it’s been pretty gentle. But that is frustrating that a product I use at night around my eyes limits other products that are recommended to be used at night for my eyes. I guess pick your battles?

This stuff works really well! I wouldn’t use it every day, 2-3 times a week is about right, my only issue with it is the smell, I like un scented products however this one smells like puke so I looked it up and found that I wasn’t the only one that thought so

Trust the process
This is one of the best skin products I’ve ever used. Beware that if you do have what seems to be a breakout when first starting to use it, it could just be skin purging. This is what happened to me. The skin purge can last up to 6-8 weeks. It’s super tempting to stop using this exfoliant during that time, but if you just be patient and continue to use it, it will do what it’s designed to do. After the skin purge, my skin is so much better — super smooth and my pores have shrunk dramatically. I’m so glad I didn’t give up!

Smaller pores!
I’ve been using the travel size for like a week or so and can already see a difference. That’s just using it ONCE DAILY. It’s hard to tell how much to really put on (I use my hands to get the most product use). I don’t mind the bit of greasiness it has bc my skins so dry it just absorbs it super quickly. My only complain is the price but it is what it is. Skin care is expensive any way you go

My skin is improving !!!!
I like this product after using a few times. I’m seeing shrinkage in pores in general, a smoothness already. Also I see my face looking a little brighter as well. I starting with a 1oz bottle but will definitely buy larger size when low on the 1oz. I have very sensitive fair skin that felt rough to the touch, like a plaque build up. I learned grainy type exfoliators can tear the skin and ruin your skin barrier, many are so drying as well. I gave this a chance with all the reviews. I’m happy I tried it and my sensitive skin is not at all irritated by it. I do wear a good sunscreen in the daytime as recommended when using this. Am I pleased? Yes, yes, yes !!!! 👍🏻👏🏻

I was struggling my whole life with the things on my nose, they’re not even a blackheads. Whatever I tried to get rid of them nothing works! UNTIL I TRIED THIS THING! and booooom my skin became amazing! The dots on my nose are barely shown! My whole skin became amazing and wonderful and it adds a lot for my face!Usually I use it with Niacinamide and get the miracles😍😍Note: it smells a little bad when you get it close to your nose but it’s ok, it’s not that bad.

This stuff is MIRACULOUS. I wanted to dislike it, even given the hype. Decided to try the travel size, for starters and followed the instructions and reviews to a T.TINGLED for at least 3 hours, almost like I’d gotten a bad sunburn. Let me start by saying I have congested skin, so I know I need an exfoliant. I have used a large number of scrubs, peels, etc. throughout the years and most were bleh. I had become frustrated recently once again with my skin needing help and I saw this item. I decided to try it, and I have used it two nights in a row.Outcome: I could see a significant difference after just the first night. This morning after the second night/application, I still saw an improvement. I am excited that my skin is looking smoother, clearer, and has smaller pores after just two days. I repeat TWO DAYS. I will keep putting it on every night since it does leave a bit of a residue on the skin that I feel I would not like during the day (but maybe it was because I put a lot of it on). Overall, I will continue to use it. And for it being as effective as it is, I don’t think it’s going to irritate or make my skin red like some other exfoliants have used. But if anything changes I will update my review. Right now, if I could give this 10 stars I would.Also, I feel like this will only help people who have skin that needs exfoliating. If you have decent skin or skin that doesn’t need exfoliating, it may not be that amazing nor effective. But it all depends on what your skin needs, so if you have any needs that this product addresses I think you should give it a go. It at least won’t harm or irritate your skin.*Disclaimer: I put on a significant amount of this both nights, probably about a good double dose all over my face and the front of my neck and rubbed it in a bit with the cotton pad. I am certain this sped up the exfoliating process, and as I continue to use it I will probably go down to putting on just one application rather than a double application each night. I may eventually go to every other night, but that remains to be seen. I will just go with the flow and do whatever my skin needs. So far, amazingly effective.UPDATE: After the 3rd double application last night, I am STILL seeing an improvement in my skin. I will go down to a normal nightly application starting tonight since my skin is feeling a bit tight. It isn’t inflamed but I can tell it could become irritated if I continue double strength applications daily. And my skin is much improved already, so there is no reason to risk irritation. I will update how the regular single application works. Oh, I am seeing wrinkles diminish as well under and around my eyes!UPDATE #2: After the normal single application last night my skin is still improving. It doesn’t feel as tight as yesterday, so it was a good I listened to my skin. Will continue with single layer nightly applications! Still loving it!UPDATE #3: After several more days of using it only at night and an overall single application (with a little extra on certain areas of my face), my skin is still continuing to improve. I am definitely sold on this.UPDATE #4: After almost another week of use it feels like my skin has gotten used to it so I will be using a light coating in the morning with moisturizer afterward, and a heavy application at night also with moisturizer after. I will let the exfoliant fully dry before putting on the moisturizer to make sure it stays where it should. I will report back on how it goes. Fine lines are diminishing and it seems like a few darker spots on my face are slowly lightening. So far, I am still loving it. (I am also putting it on the front of my neck and upper chest and it’s helping there as well.) HOWEVER, I am not a person who puts on foundation or much makeup, so I am not sure how using this during the day would affect someone the foundation staying in place or not. Once I am back to my normal work outside the house I may decide to use it only at night, we will see.UPDATE #5: I am still using this daily twice a day and still seeing improvement in my skin. A few darker patches of skin near my temples are lightening, my pores are still getting smaller, and my fine lines are still diminishing. I have set this up on a subscription because it works so well for me. I hope this review helped you!

Started having some milia spots gathering around my eye. Wasn’t sure what was causing did some research and i’ve been using this about a week now and can already tell a huge difference in my skin and the milia. They’re not completely gone but shrinking for sure . Make sure you wear sun screen with this product as well.

I’m still old and ugly, but it does make a difference.
Someone posted a photo of Paula’s products next to a cigarette lighter for scale. Um, maybe stop smoking and you won’t need to put acid on your face to look better? As for those of you who are applying this product with a cotton ball, why? It needs to get absorbed into your skin, not a wad of cotton. Don’t be so wasteful. The biggest deal here is that you must wear sunblock with this product. This is an absolute must. If money is tight, focus on finding a good facial sunblock first. Okay, so there you go. That’s my review.

Liquid Miracle
I have used other salicylic acids and I can tell that the quality of chemical is very good. when it comes out the bottle, it feels really silky not watery, but not oily. Hard to explain. this stuff works really well with other products such as my niacinamide and moisturizer. works fast and no burning. It’s pricey, so I can’t use it as much as I would love to because I want to preserve what I can and I’m on a spending budget, but this stuff works well.

I have been using this exfoliant for almost 2 months and I’m a big fan.For my whole life i’ve been struggling with enlarged pores, uneven skin tone and occasional breakouts. My skin type is oily however i also get dry around my nose area and chin.I am really surprised how this product changed my skin in 2 short months. My pores are significantly reduces and the overall texture of my skin feels very smooth.I use it once a day in the evening, 5-6 drops after i apply moisturizing toner. I did my research to ensure this product does not conflict with Retinol (which i use every other night) and i finish my routine with a moisturizer.I don’t know if i can give 100% credit for significant skin improvement just to this Exfoliant, however i am confident that it integrated very well with my skincare routine and is contributing to a great overall result.

Miracle in a bottle.
I hardly use many products on my face. But lately I have been testing with new things as I am entering my 30’s. Ordered the small bottle. I highly recommend. I have seem overall inprovement with the texture and coloration of my skin after using the product for two weeks now. My dark spots are diminishing. I still have plenty of product to use, and it makes my face feels so good and soft. I highly recommend. Will be ordering the large bottle next time.

First time I bought this was in Sephora (same price) after it was recommended to me. Loved it so much but the closest Sephora to me is a good 30 min drive. Amazon was faster.I use this about 2x weekly to help clear up my pores and smooth over my skin. Just a few drops on a cotton pad. It’s almost like it helps clean off any dirt and oil that may be left after face washing. In Sephora, the sales associate mentioned it helps reduce the size of pores. Keep it away from your eyes!!The tiny bottle last me about 5-6 months.If you’ve ever used NuSkin products before; this is very similar to the NuSkin 2 step cleaning and clarifying pads. But this is way better and last longer.

First time in over thirty years
I bought the in December last year. As usual I broke out …. But hear me out first! I have very fair sensitive skin. I would like to say that I’ve had good skin at one point, but that isn’t true. I’ve had acne since I was 11 and there has been no reprieve. I’m in my 40’s and my breakouts are still awful, just different awful with more cystic acne an extremely dry skin. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on every product imagined. The stronger the medicinal content the more drying. The less drying the more severe the breakouts. After shelving this product , I stumbled on an article about little known beauty secrets… Believe it or not it recommended aquaphor (yes same stuff used for diaper rashes) as a moisturizer. So I said what the neck I’ve tried everything else. It changed everything!!!! My skin still broke out but the drying aspect totally changed. I could feel and see my skin improving. It had been a few months since I had tried the pc exfoliation and I began to wonder if it would still break me out, so I tried again.This has changed my life!?! Within a week my breakouts reduced to half and any breakouts duration was reduced to days instead of weeks. Over the two months I’ve been using Paula’s choice I’ve added more their products. I now use cleaner, toner, exfoliant. I still use aquaphor as my nighttime moisturizer. I use Paula’s choice moisturizer with sunscreen with pc boost mixed in for daytime. I hardly breakout now even during my period. Guys I’m in tears as I write this. Honestly to be able to walk outdoors without tons of concealer and full makeup…. There are no words.My skin tone has evened out the redness gone. If anyone has suffered with this then II want to say there is hope. Few things 1. If you use the aquaphor the beware it is grease, very greasey. When I use it before bed I try to rub in as much as possible, when I wake up though it is completely absorbed. I used this alone for weeks, I didn’t try other products until I realized my skin texture had changed and become more supple. 2. Exfolliator is a chemical and a little goes long way. Personally patting it in with fingertips was best, don’t rub or smear on. Start with once day, I have now worked up to morning and evening usage. This can burn you. I have been overzealous and used too much because I was excited with results. When this happened rinsed off face and kept covered with aquaphor and burns healed by morning.I’m know now that my face was in no shape for products because of ph balance and that is why everything exasperated already horrible breakouts. I’m no doctor or chemist but I can say that right now this is the first time I can walk out of the house without covering in makeup, hats, and long hair. You wouldn’t believe the feeling when friends who see me say, “wow your skin looks amazing!” My skin looks better than when I was in my teens. I’ve now got my teen using Paula’s choice clear skin line and aquaphor . her tone has now evened out no more redness (yes extreme fair skin). Safe and effective way to exfoliate skin
I have used several brands of face exfoliators, and this truly”clean/nontoxic” brand definitely gets the job done. After I wash my face, I douse a cotton pad and wipe my entire face with it. I do not experience any redness, or stinging, which other brands, sometimes cause. The only complaint, is the price. Not sure if I will be able to afford to keep it in my skincare regiment.

Love the product but the instructions are dangerous
The product is absolutely amazing absolutely nothing wrong with it! I love it! However the instructions say to work your way up to 2x a day and being a skincare specialist I can’t agree with those directions, that would completely destroy your skin’s protective barrier! But at the end of the day if you use it as you should use a chemical exfoliation than the product is amazing!

If you actually understand how to use it, it’s amazing.
My skin type:- Very Dry, easily dehydrated- Oily nose- Prone to stubborn acne and closed comedones- Redness on chin and cheeks (not rosacea)I already use a nightly Tretinoin cream (.04% concentration) to help with my acne and premature signs of aging but decided with my derm that incorporating a BHA would be a good idea to help with my seriously stubborn closed comedones and some irritating textural issues. It was between this and the Cerave SA lotion and I ultimately decided on this due to the higher concentration of salicylic acid.It’s moisturizing, and feels sticky for the first 5-10 minutes after application but seems to sinks in to something of a satin finish on me and I can no longer feel it on my skin. You just have to be a little patient. My skin feels well hydrated and plump after it settles and looks really smooth and my pores aren’t as obvious. It sits just fine under makeup for me but I’m not a new user to chemical exfoliants so I don’t have lots of dead skin pilling up or sloughing off when I use it, my skin is, for the most part, already very smooth outside the acne and CCs. Occasionally I’ll apply it further down my neck/decolletage than usual and WOW do I old skin just ball up and peel right away – it’s so gross but also satisfying. So those that don’t exfoliate often or are new to BHA/AHAs will likely have issues with foundation until their skin adjusts (but it will adjust). My advice in those cases is to either use this at night for the first few weeks or just accept going barefaced for a little while if you can.I’d strongly suggest not applying this product over anything that you feel does not dry down fully, the times I’ve attempted to use it after serums or heavier products it takes forever to sink in and sometimes never fully does. I save all my serums and essences for after this has absorbed and it’s far easier to work with it as a result. My steps go like this most days: ACWell Licorice toner — PC 2% BHA — 10% Niacinamide serum — TO Matryxil serum — Secret Key Black Snail cream or Syn-ake cream w/ 3 drops Stratia Fortify oil — Sunscreen.It works fairly quickly IMO, on my neck where I typically don’t apply my Tret at night I noticed the peeling and balling of dead skin on day one and on my face where I have a patch of really awful CCs I noticed them getting smaller and smoother by around day 3-4. I’m going on about 8 days now and they’re barely visible unless I’m right up in the mirror and feel as if they’re almost gone when I touch my fingers to that area. I do have some slight peeling of the skin around my mouth and nose but it’s not terrible (likely because I already exfoliate the heck out of my skin with the tret).Some tips and things keep in mind:1)DO NOT RINSE IT OFF. I don’t understand some of the top reviews advising people to do that, it says on the bottle not to rinse and nearly all chemical exfoliators are meant to be left on until the next cleansing specifically so they can do their job. If you rinse it off you’re either going to prevent it from properly exfoliating or end up irritating the hell out of your skin. If you have oily skin and feel this might be heavy on you than you can probably just use this on bare skin and then sunscreen if you use in the AM or a lightweight lotion/cream and be done with it, but you need to leave it on your skin.2)You have got to use sunscreen while you’re using this product! Any BHA or AHA exfoliant causes increased sun sensitivity and you have to address that in your routine. You should already use sunscreen daily but it becomes a must when you incorporate a chemical exfoliator or you risk sun damage.3)Less is more! Don’t slop this on your face or soak a cotton pad in it, a little goes a long way and you’ll be kicking yourself if you apply way too much and have to wait 20+ minutes for it to sink in. Use a shake or two and add more if needed but go easy.4)Expect some irritation initially. Chemical exfoliants can be harsh and rough even on sturdy skin and you have to give yourself time to adjust. Over-exfoliation is a possibility but sometimes just introducing a BHA or AHA into your routine can cause some sensitivity. Don’t panic and just be gentle to your skin. Use ceramides (like Cerave Skin Renewing cream) or fatty oils to soothe your face if needed and try to stay away from any harsh products or acids like Vitamin C right after applying this to avoid really burning your face.

This is better than I had expected…
I usually have combination skin. Some days it’s extra oily and some days it’s dry. One thing is for certain, after working long hours or having busy days where I can’t properly take care of my skin the touch of my face feels almost grainy or slightly bumpy from all the dead skin I KNOW is there. I have exfoliates and face wash I use in the shower, but it doesn’t always work. I bought Paula’s Choice as I was looking for something heavier duty and to put myself out on a limb to give a facial cream a go. I don’t usually buy extra face “stuff” because I don’t like a lot of product on my skin.However, this has been a game changer for my after shower routine. I know many reviewers have their ways they like to apply it or add it to their skin care routine. But for me, I do my usual face wash in the shower or sink, pat my skin dry and then apply this serum directly all over my face and neck. My skin has never been so soft. The first time using it my face tingled a bit as I’m sure it was murdering whatever was on my skin that didn’t need to be there. After a week of use, I kept touching my face and remarking how soft it felt. I actually didn’t mind my bf touching my skin for once. It does actually remove dead skin and I can feel it when I rub my fingers over it. Sometimes there is a little flaky but it’s doing its job. It keeps my skin hydrated and I personally only use it once a day. Some may use it more often. It lasts a long time and you don’t need a lot either.Fair price to pay for this serum. It’s a game changer and finally something I’ll buy again and again. As for the “taste”, it’s not a pleasant taste if you happen to get some on your mouth. Just wipe with a damp cloth and carry on. Get it and be patient, it will work!!
Here’s the latest and greatest addition to my skincare routine, it’s been a few weeks and I almost quit it but I’m seriously now seeing results. Blotchy uneven skin tone and sun spots are gone, forehead lines are less noticeable, blackheads and clogged pores are gone, and pores got tiny. I dab a few drops on fingers and gently massage onto my face after washing up at bed, wait ten mins or so till it’s fully absorbed and not tacky anymore, then apply nighttime moisturizer.

Desperate
I have had blackheads all over my nose for years, nothing ever got rid of them. Recently I used a pore strip (please I was desperate) and apart from getting more blackheads on my nose, I suddenly started getting some on my cheeks. I bought this to help because my face was resembling a strawberry. I patch-tested it (like you should every product) and began slowly incorporating it into my skincare by using it once every third day at night. DO NOT USE IT EVERYDAY, listen to me on that one. I entered the purging stage ( I broke out) which is completely normal when using a new product since your skin needs to push everything out from underneath. Remember, it gets worse before it gets better. I have been using it for about 4 weeks now and have now switched to using it every other day. I can tell it has helped. I only have 3 barely visible blackheads on my cheek in comparison to having about 12 before. On my nose, I have noticed a couple gone and a lot that have become smaller. some even on the surface. The blackheads on my nose will take longer because they are way deeper and have been there for years. Mine didn’t have any weird smell, it smelt like nothing. If you are to buy this, make sure you use it at night, slowly incorporate it into your skin, and take into consideration that you will probably break out. Thats it, buy it or don’t.

Definitely noticed a difference right away!
I received the product exfoliator today and first try I definitely noticed the glow it left on my face. My face was tacky at first to the touch, but the instructions said to leave it on. Over time it absorbed into my skin and dried up. (Unfortunately I didn’t calculate the time.) Once that happened my skin felt softer and smoother but not dried out. I did feel a little tingling on my face for those with sensitive skin. So far I am very pleased with this product.

Big blemishes be gone!
This is the first time I’ve ever written a review. I poured and putted over the reviews myself for this product, so wanted to add my experience.I’ve been using it every day for about three weeks. I experienced minimal peeling and no major gross. After the first week I could see my skin looked more even and brighter. After two weeks I noticed wrinkles were looking a little more faded and by week 3 I can tell you that blemishes are disappearing. I had one on my forehead for about a year that I could never get rid of, and it’s shrunk to an unnoticeable size. I can’t even believe it. I’m just a regular 44 year old single mom on the precipice of perimenopause. Skin is changing and stressing me out but this product is an actual game changer.

Need to build a tolerance to this product!
I would not recommend this be used daily! It states you can use this twice daily but you need to work up a tolerance to it. If you are on Tretinoin PLEASE use this on nights you are not using Tretinoin as it can be incredibly irritating and damaging to your skin. Had the most awful smell as if you passed a port-a-potty on a summer day and takes a minute for the smell to go away. I use this twice a month as I have noticed my skin can’t quite tolerate it every week. Worked great on helping get rid of my closed comedones but I can attribute that to my Tretinoin use as well. I honestly would not repurchase this product and I cannot get past the smell.

An excellent product
I have been using Eucerin Intensive Repair for awhile. I did not realize it had Alpha Hydroxy Acid in it (a very good thing). About 10yrs ago I started using Tretinoin Cream and it was a great product that complimented the Eucerin. So as my skin got used to these products I tried Vitamin C serum, hyaluronic acid and other skin products that my skin hated…then I realized that Eucerin has AHA so I looked for products with that ingredient and Paula’s Choice 2% BHA (beta hydroxy acid) and it was the perfect match. So the morning after Tretinoin….2% BHA and I am peeling without effort. I also discovered Vaseline is a great exfoliator also….it helps slide the dead skin without tearing the skin. Highly recommend this product

So good!
I have only used this twice so far spaced 3 days apart as I do tret in between and also one day break with nothing but moisturizer and wow! After just one use I saw a massive difference in my wrinkle depth under my eyes that tret was not helping with or anything else I tried. It has not dried out my skin which is great but I do use a good moisturizer after applying. I am so happy I bought this as I really am stunned at the quick results in wrinkles appearance so soon! I have seen no irritation. The only thing I don’t like is the smell but once applying moisturizer over I don’t notice it. Slight sting sensation for a few mins after application but who cares when you get such good results.
